Under Florida law, an acquitted defendant cannot be held liable for court costs or any charges while detained in custody, as long as a clerk or judge consents to the refund.

The costs may include money spent for expert witnesses, travel expenses and fees for transcripts.

"We're probably going to ask for somewhere between $200,000 and $300,000," lead attorney Mark O'Mara said.
But, O'Mara said, the chances are slim they'll receive anywhere near that sum.

"We're not going to get it. The case law here is quite limited. Even though we're going to ask for it, the amount that we'd most likely get is significantly less."

He should get it(*), considering the only reason he was brought up on charges was political pressure from Washington and being made into a pawn. George should also get restitution for false imprisonment.

*I don't think George is any martyr and he has said some dumb things, but the facts are the facts.

I understand the emotions here, but people have been played. Even if people strongly think Zimmerman at least commited manslaughter, they need to respect the court verdict. I don't mean verbally, I mean retaliation. I was furious over the OJ trial, but I never promoted hunting down OJ or random black people.

@Red, Good point about OJ. Perhaps Zimmerman should be given the $200K with the condition it must first be used to compensate any rewards in a wrongful death civil suits to Martin's family. Kinda like OJ and the Browns.

Martins family has no basis for a wrongful death civil suit, and would be opening themselves up to a counter suit

The original investigator was demoted, and the police chief fired, because both said there was no basis to file charges in the case

The DA had no basis to bring the case to trial, in fact the DA bypassed the grand jury process to bring it to trial

The entire case was politically motivated, and would have been dismissed by a grand jury if it had been presented

the DA should be liable for sanctions and penalties for withholding evidence, and jailed for contempt of court for withholding evidence
