As many may know, the UK press (Guardian, Telegraph, etc..) have recently continued to report that there is a fallout between the Obama and Brown administrations. While I suspect there is some truth in that claim, I love how White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs trys to spin it. I wonder who had to mentor Mr. Gibbs on Manchester United?

Even more hilarious (to me) is the accusation that the British press may not be as "news worthy" as others... "If I was looking for something that bordered on truthful news, I’m not entirely sure it’d be in the first pack of clips I’d pick up".

If I wanted truthful news I think a British news paper is the last thing I'd pick up!

It's widely believed here that Obama doesn't care much for the special relationship. Personally I believe Obama just tolerates Brown in the same manner as others who aren't particularly strategically important because it's better not to cause a scene. Even if that's not true, the Brown/Obama relationship is still a million miles from that of Bush/Blair.

During the presidential election, Obama said he would meet with leaders of enemy nations, such as Mahmoud Ahmadinijead, without preconditions. He made no promises about heads of friendly states.

Obama's dislike for Britain has to do with Kenya. Its in his autobiography.

In that case, it's a well deserved dislike.

Be that as it may, Obama (IMO) is potentially making a strategic mistake. Both the UK and France are among the USA's most supportive allies. To pretty much relegate them to the background once again demonstrates (IMO) Obama's lack of experience and why I have always felt this current president was not ready for prime time (among other reasons).

It would be interesting to see how Obama would react if France and the UK would start to stand up for themselves a bit more (with regards to Obama).

The fact that you listed France as one of your strongest supporters tells me right away that Obama already surpassed Bush in terms of relations with allies. Last I remember France was ranked up there with Iran and N. Korea in terms of popularity while Bush was in power. I think Obama has done much to repair the damage caused by the prior regime.
