Bringing record cold weather to Florida!!

http://weblogs.sun-sentinel.com/news/we ... ather.html

According to the National Weather Service in Miami, 10 cold temperature records were broken across the southern third of Florida, including the West Coast.

Here in South Florida, it reached 50 degrees in West Palm Beach, breaking the previous record of 51 degrees for this date in 1944.

Pompano Beach registered a reading of 53 degrees, breaking the previous record of 56 degrees, set in 1990. And it was 57 degrees in Miami Beach, beating the previous record of 58 degrees, set in 1943, meteorologist Joel Rothfus said.

Yup. Exactly how it works, don'tcha know...

Earth heats up, melts ice caps, water gets colder, weird weather comes about, including unexpected storms, hurricanes, colder temperatures, and potentially, eventually, another ice age..

Surely you didn't think global warming was all about tropical temps.

Well that's what Hollywood tells us  Actually Global warming was supposed to kill us all with 1.3T^92 category 7 hurricanes this year. Not minimizing the tragedy in Haiti, but this has been one wimpy ass storm season, making 3 wimpy ass storm seasons in a row.

Why does America always talk in old money ?

ITS CELCIUS (or Centigrade)

Oh.. It was chuffing cold here last night as well.... -4 by my truck thermometer.

Because the US is smart enough to know that Fahrenheit is superior.

When you have a thermometer with 1 mark per degree the Celcius has 100 ticks between boiling and freezing. When you have a thermometer with 1 mark per degree the Fahrenheit has 180 ticks between boiling and freezing. Measure in Fahrenheit and convert to Celcius and the margin of error is smaller, thus a greater accuracy. :D

The more I read or see about this the scarier it gets.
I've been watching a lot about this lately and now it's *really* scary.

The debate on it being natural or not is all academic now (though I don't think there is a debate, it's our fault).

The problem now is it's going, or more likely gone into, positive feedback. In other words change is coming and there's nothing we can do about it.

The ice at the North pole this summer has not had the lowest coverage ever but its thickness has, it has plummeted. As the ice retreats less heat is radiated back into space, it will eventually double the effect of the CO2.

On top of that methane is being released from below the ice, Methane is 20x more potent than CO2 as a greenhouse gas.

But it gets better...

The climate (like the economy) is a chaotic system, collapse into chaos is unpredictable, as is switching to a different climate state.

Last time there was that much CO2 in the atmosphere the world jumped into a "hot" state, 5°C hotter than it was, bizarrely it appears to have done it within a single year. Except, according to the ice record that's not bizarre, sudden huge jumps are normal. Getting out of the hot state took 200,000 years.

This has happened in the past umpteen times, it's worse than anything the Human race has ever encountered, and we're heading straight for it. However none of the climate models predict this, they are based on a relatively stable climate model, not a chaotic one.

Now, add to this the current financial crisis.
When these crises happen some economies go right down the toilet. When that happens things get very bad, people get desperate and the end result is people who shouldn't be anywhere near a government office get into power. Last time this happened a guy called Adolph Hitler got into power and 65 million died. This time the financial melt down appears to be even worse than it was in the 1930s. High oil and food prices will only add to the fun...

These are, to say the least, interesting times. We have gone from the best (money wise) times ever to looking forward to flooding on an incomprehensible scale and WWIII. Don't ye just love chaos theory?

I think the best advice is to book a flight with Virgin Galactic, one way.

The GW denialist crowd claim the IPCC computer model is wrong. First it's interesting they think there is 1 computer model. There's around 18 models. Second in each model the rate of arctic sea ice melt is wrong. Unfortunately, this point isn't in favor of the anti-GW crowd because all 18 models have proven to be low. In reality the rate of ice shrinkage is higher than every model predicts.

Don't be silly, Jim. There's no such thing as climate change. ;-)

Well if you're so certain that global warming is nonsense, then put your money where your mouth is and buy up some sea-side property in Florida.
