GMOs win in California

Shame! California is full of tree hugging libs and yet they are letting a multinational corporation destroy the natural ecosystem.

most of CA is republican. only the big cities are more "liberal"

I know - i lived there for about 10 years

Well, California exports huge amounts of produce, meaning, people who voted for this thought not only of what they eat but also of their own economic situation and how this bill would affect them directly. Also, those who are very picky about what they eat still have access to organic foods which are only gaining popularity. Lack of clear labeling of the mass produced stuff will only drive people towards the organic stuff, which IS labeled. If enough people want the organic stuff, that would eventually cause the mass producers to move that way as well.

Red, isn't that the unregulated free market most conservatives dream of?

You mean the people that voted against it.

(And, no, I think that the people who voted against it didn't do much thinking.)

Unregulated? No. Conservatives by and large believe in minimal regulation. Selling poison as food should be covered under minimal regulation.

Really? I'll have to take your word on that.
it's also true of New York STATE. A good part of the State is republican at least in name. and most of the "democrats" are in NYC and Long Island

dont really matter... they moved plum island to kansas so they could directly poison the food supply... enjoy! cuddle your guns folks... buy bullets... life is gonna get strange soon... 1.2 billion job shortfall... something will be done... herd is unsustainable at this size... not enuff feed bales to go around... could be... but sadly unprofitable...

Psst - not if you're Libertarian. ;) This is simply more government control. The Libertarian arguement is if the business kills off their customers they won't buy food there again, nor will others, and that business will be gone. However, the reality of this world is far from the idealic Libertarian view. If the poision is fairly fast acting we may see a large number of deaths first. ... The question then becomes what do we do about slow acting poisions - cigarettes for example that harm a sizable number of smokers and have effects on non-smokers.

There's another problem with the right poision. We can't always directly attribute issues to the poison. Steroids is a good example. We can never say that any particular home run from Mark McGuire was due to his steroid use. The best we can detect is the indirect effect - it's fairly unlikely that Mark McGuire could hit that many home runs had he not used steroids. I see this problem is a subtleness that Libertarians disregard as important.

By counties, most of California is Republican
most of the Democrats in California live on the future underwater Atlantis side of the San Andreas

If steroids were the difference, then Baseball teams would be hiring weight lifters to bat 4th ...

steroids helped make McGuire able play more games in a season, it didn't give him the skill to hit the ball

the most dangerous foods to eat in the grocery storer are the organic foods ...
escherichia coli contamination due to using organic fertilizer ... e.g. fecal matter

that's why they invented soap.

and I love that processed and gene altered "food" somehow can't possibly have crap on it

Synthetic fertilizer does not contain bacteria, so safe

Organic fertilizer, feces, is absorbed into the plant, wash it 2 or 3 times, but better you cook it, or radiate it, that will kill the e coli inside

If E. coli is not to your liking, you can also enjoy pyrethrin, one of several common toxic chemicals sprayed on fruit trees by organic farmers, rotenone, a neurotoxin recently linked to Parkinson's disease, ricin and strychnine - all natural and all organic and all allowed in organic food.
