A good question coming up more frequently in socity is how much 'right' should a parent have to... not treat their child because they believe they read this book correctly.... even to the point of death of a child. LINK

Recently similar situation happened in Minnesota where parents only wanted to use religion approved homeopathy to treat cancer in their son. The judge ruled he must receive cancer treatments. LINK

Is neglect of a child, to the point of death, acceptable to society because 'the bible tells me so'?
 
No matter what kind of attrocity you want to commit, if you look long enough you can find passages in so-called Holy Books to 'justify' it.
Selective reading of religious text is one of the most bizarre examples of willful dissonance you'll find.
