Tax Party Republican Gov of Florida instituted a drug testing program for welfare families.

The State of Florida is seeing higher costs for drug testing than just skipping it...
"The Department of Children and Families' central region has tested 40 applicants since the law went into effect six weeks ago, and of those 40 applicants, 38 tested negative for drugs. The cost to the state of Florida to reimburse those 38 individuals who tested negative was at least $1,140 over the course of six weeks. Meanwhile, denying benefits to the two applicants who tested positive will save Florida less than $240 a month."

I'd argue this was known as a decade ago the results were the same. More costly to test for drugs then just pay the bill. http://www.miamiherald.com/2011/05/05/2203328/bill-requiring-welfare-recipients.html

Simply one of many example on how the Tax Party 'save the gov' mentality is worse.

But the important thing is that the money is going to Rick's friends in the drug testing business instead of those freeloading poor people who can't seem to get a job (it's not like the rich don't have so much money these days that they aren't creating millions of jobs that are all going unfilled).

The guys that have to pay for their tests then get cut off? Well, they are just going to have to steal to survive and that means money to Rick's friends who run prisons.

The real problem is that those people who have no income just aren't paying their fair share of taxes.

No, the checks go to a relative (typically a grandparent) who spends the money for the family. This way the crackhead daughter can't spend the money for drugs and not buy food for her children.

You mean the bottom 49% who pay zero income taxes?

That's right. The people who pay only social security, state taxes, property taxes and sales taxes (and bank taxes in the form of interest because they so often have to borrow to get by).

But I am interested to know how you think you could get more tax money out of those people who earn $54k and under, per year. What do you think they should pay?

(BTW, Florida is one of the few states that doesn't have a state income tax - most others do, and the bottom 49% still have to pay social security @ 4.2%).
