Gov loses BIllions

On average, the study found that contractors charged the federal government more than twice the amount it pays federal workers.

That's actually a pretty normal markup. Outsourcing is big business. And there are some very valid reasons why. But any company or group who thinks they can save money by simply firing their workforce and then getting new workers through middle men (contract/consulting companies) is insane.

The more hands reaching into a till, the less it will contain when it's all said and done. This shouldn't really come as news, yet it does to all too many groups. :P

I think this show that it is possible for gov to do it better and cheaper than private industry.

I'm not surprised and for certain projects I think having the gov do it way better. like the interstate highways that Eisenhower kicked off, and Hover Dam to name two that pop into my head

The difference between private and public is that the owner of the corporation is the public. The owner usually wants a cut but when the owner is the public they can take the cut either after paying it or by not paying fit in the first place. When you have a private company the owner always skims money. Given equally talented people the public corporation can do a job every bit as well as the private corporation and for a better price even when the workers are paid better.

However, and here it where things go pear shaped, when you have a public purse controlled by corrupt politicians giving contracts to private corporations then the costs go out of control (by design).
