This could be under political jokes but it's a bit long form for that. There are some general WTF leftists threads around but I couldn't pick one. If this is real (and this suggests that it likely is) this is hilarious and horrifying.

The bit at 4:29 is especially ... poignant?

My current grievance is that FedEx won't deliver packages after 18:00. Will that be valid input data for their researches?

Yeah, it's worth a view. I didn't find anything in it hilarious, though.

But I agree that the talk at 4:29 about corruption is interesting. To me, when trying to understand corruption of a system, whether digital or social... I always come back to asking what is the motive? Considering that is where that video turns to the horrifying. It appears that both the digital and the human gatekeepers for people's eyes are pushing similar extremist messages that are all formed and framed in an inflammatory way.

Again, that can't be good.

Hmm. Maybe if you have termporal dysphoria - like you deeply feel like you are living at a different time than the current colonial/patriarchal hours and minutes ... There could be a PhD in that.

Well, maybe not hilarious - but I do find it amusing that the retraction notice on the paper was due to attribution - that the name of the submitter was not the real name of the author - rather than the more straightforward reason that it was a load of bollocks.

On an individual basis it needn't be any more than status and immediate monetary gain. people will believe (and fool themselves into believing) all sorts of nonsense if there is a buck in it or a status payoff. What do priests gain? What did Muhammad gain?

Getting papers cited means being invited to teach or speak or join a faculty. Publishing papers means selling access for citation. The same corruption infests STEM papers in that respect. Total crap can get published - but those publishers lose prestige - but they still attract papers because universities demand profs publish. It's a kind of self sustaining death spiral - I don't think it needs much of an outside enemy to push it along. If anything an enemy would encourage it and try to hide the pathology by saying everything was OK.

Some more info.

Feminist Journal Published Hoax Paper About ‘Dog Rape Culture’

Breitbart News published two reports on the hoax paper before its true nature was revealed by its authors: academics Helen Pluckrose, James Lindsay, and Peter Boghossian. Boghossian and Lindsay perpetrated a similar hoax in 2017 when they submitted an academic paper, The Conceptual Penis” to various academic journals. The paper, which argued, amongst other things, that penises caused climate change, was published in an academic journal after a peer-review process.

“Much like members of a zealous church or religious cult, argument, and persuasion no longer work to convince many of these people,” Lindsay said after the “Conceptual Penis” paper was published. “While an event like this will be unlikely to stop them, it can put a significant crack in the intellectual edifice they are using to protect and promote their ultimately morally motivated beliefs.”

Mothers in shock as daughters come home from college with mustaches, breasts removed

“The young woman went off to college—which began, as it often does these days, with an invitation to state her name, sexual orientation and ‘pronouns.’ When her anxiety flared during her first semester, she and several of her friends decided their angst had a fashionable cause: ‘gender dysphoria.’ Within a year, the lawyer’s daughter had begun a course of testosterone. Her real drug—the one that hooked her—was the promise of a new identity. A shaved head, boys’ clothes and a new name formed the baptismal waters of a female-to-male rebirth.”

This is a very interesting Norwegian series I've just about finished watching. The non-English parts are subtitled and there are some interesting researchers interviewed, but some of the videos end just short of the length of the program. Why am I putting a link in Grievance Studies? Just watch.

A Study Found 92% Of Left-Wing Activists Still Live With Parents, And It’s Not Likely To Get Better

They’re marching down the street wearing black, their faces obscured by red bandanas or possibly a Guy Fawkes mask. They’re intimidating as they create a mob and chase after you, calling you a fascist and a Nazi because you don’t share their extreme ideology. They’re marching down the street bashing in car windows and vandalizing storefronts. They’re going to do all it takes to stop fascism and hate speech.

But they have to hurry this along because they have to be home before 10:30, or else their mom will be totally pissed off.

This is a likely story according to a Berlin study, but this is not a new story. In fact, the Daily Mail published these findings back in 2017 which showed that 92 percent of leftist activists that were arrested in Berlin still live with their parents, and what’s more, a third are completely unemployed:

The figures, which were published in daily newspaper Bild revealed that 873 suspects were investigated by authorities between 2003 and 2013.

Of these 84 per cent were men, and 72 per cent were aged between 18 and 29.

More than half of the arrests were made in the Berlin districts of Friedrichshain, Kreuzberg and Mitte, mostly during demonstrations.

A third of them were unemployed, and 92 per cent still live with their parents.
