Final Space Shuttle mission underway

Hail and farewell Space Shuttles. For 30 years you served us well. Hopefully it won't be 5 years before a replacement can take your place. Paying the Russians $62 million (at current agreement) per US astronaut, per flight to go to/from the space station does not sit very well with me.

The shuttle cost more than $400 million per launch. Clearly firing government workers and outsourcing to a foreigner is something we have to do to deal with US excesses in budgets. ;)

If only it were that simple... :-(

One of the sadder points to me is that neither (political) side seems interested in the (short term) continuance of manned space flight.

I watched the launch...always an exciting experience and never gets old

I remember the first shuttle launch. Vaguely, but I do. End of an era, and damn I'm old.
