How diet soda causes weight gain

this doesnt help either...

According to the National Soft Drink Association (NSDA), consumption of soft drinks is now over 600 12-ounce servings (12 oz.) per person per year.

I don't even remember when I've had a soda last. Maybe a year ago

i drink em now and again... i like orange strawberry and grape sodas... never any brand containing aspartame ... no diet anything :D

Darn chemistry must not work on me? Down 47 pounds in 8 months and had Diet Coke at least 5x/week and often every day. If not Diet Coke then Coffee. Though Caffeine does increase metabolism and thereby aiding weight loss. Perhaps it's net postive for me.

impressive

Thanks Robert. It has come through the hard but proven method of calorie reduction and exercise. While I agree the stuff is unlikely to be the best of options. One won't shred pounds by simply switching out water for Diet Coke.

first: congratulations

secondly, if your diet has lots of fruits and veggies than you are replacing your calcium and minerals leeched by the soda

if not....ya got me?

Thanks Cecilia.

Assuming the author is right my pH has likely changed. Though he's wrong about several things. Such as he claims 'If your pH falls below 7.3'. Below 7.35 your body goes into acidosis and your nervous system is depressed. If you're below 7.35 you better be on the way to a hospital. Reach around 7.1 and you're in a coma if not dead. Also, your body doesn't fall below 7.3 then readjusts itself to 7.4, as the author claims. The body is always in a continual state of adjustment based upon intakes and outputs. The body continually adjusts to maintain the 7.35-7.45 range.

Accordingly we can test this guy's theory, if someone wants to do it. If leaching chemicals is THE answer to being overweight simply pop lots of multivitamins. Now eat 4K calories per day of Fast Food Burgers and Fries. Don't exercise. Instead double the necessary alkaline tablets to offset the pH. This will not only undo the acid of the fries and burgers but give you a net positive alkaline body. (Again according to this theory.) Thus, the net positive alkaline environment should make you skinny as heck! Who doesn't want to lose weight? Anyone up for the McDonald and Tums diet?

"Caffeine is a central nervous system stimulant, so your daily java jolts can rev your metabolism 5 to 8%—about 98 to 174 calories a day. " .. Oh and it's acidic...

pH scale of 0-14 is for wusses. You should see what superacids and superbases can do...

http://www.npr.org/blogs/thesalt/2012/04/13/150514083/advice-for-diet-soda-lovers-skip-the-chips

"Researchers at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill found that diet soda drinkers who ate a so-called "prudent" diet, rich in fruit, fish, vegetables, whole grains, nuts and milk, were significantly less likely to develop metabolic syndrome over 20 years than those who ate a "Western diet" heavy in fried foods, meats and sugars.

Those with the lowest risk of developing metabolic disorder were the participants who followed the "prudent" diet and also drank no diet soda at all."

""But what the mistake a lot of people make is that they compensate for the calories that they save in the diet soda with other foods and beverages," --- BINGO! I wish I had the studies but what I understand is people are really bad at understanding calories. They skip a 150 calorie soda for a diet soda then compenstate by eating 300 calories of chips or a 450 calorie chocolate brownie. It's almost if they're math impared.

@cecilia,

Carcinogens certainty are associated with marijuana, if administered the usual way: smoking.

you guys Do realize that you are addressing this to someone who not only has NEVER used drugs - including this "pot", but also regular cigarettes. I posted that images because I found it funny. :D

-- Though some noteable people 'did not inhale'. Though that doesn't mean he didn't eat a pan full of brownies. ;)
