For almost the last decade each night leave my keys in my car and my car in my driveway. Unlocking thousands of cars will most likely have 0 effect.

The USA has 137M cars. Unlocking 1/2 a million(aka 500 thousand) would be about .3%. So really any fear of this is really a play on the reader's inummerancy.
