At some point in typing the cursor goes to the bottom of the screen. I can't really see what I type and the box for text is all jerky. Is this an IE8 problem with the site or something on the site in general?

It's not one that I've seen, or can replicate, but then again friends don't let friends do IE. I can only presume that it's either a local, or an IE problem, but would love to hear from anyone else who's seen the same symptoms.

Haven't seen that either. Faethor, are you using a laptop? I sometimes notice that my hands accidentally touch the touchpad and the cursor moves unexpectedly. There's a way to diminish that effect through settings. Aside from that, I use Firefox on WinXP both here at work and both systems at home and haven't seen the issue you described.

As IE owns about 1/2 the market it's something I need to use for testing of various code.

I can only presume that it's either a local, or an IE problem, but would love to hear from anyone else who's seen the same symptoms.

I use IE in both notebook and desktop. It's likely an IE issue.

Here's what I've tried.
In this thread my post is short. There is no scroll bar. When I edit and add enough text a scroll bar appears. Everything seems to work correctly.

In the politics thread I made an update during the same session as this one. The original post I had was long enough to have a scroll bar. I edited that post. I used the scroll bar to go down to the bottom. I clicked on the last character of the last line. Then I started to type. When I type it's like the screen scrolls down 1 line. This puts the cursor and where I'm typing 'under' the Diable BB Code box. Each time I type it's jerky. It seems that when the character is typed it scrolls the text back up and when done scrolls it back down.

Perhaps that description might be something for others to try.

I grabbed Chrome. It appears to work w/o problem. So perhaps it's an IE 'bug'. I'm using IE 8.0.6001.18702

I don't normally use IE on any outside webpages (just internal testing and an application I have to use that was built with Sharepoint [shudder]). Anyhow, I'm unable to replicate that behavior on the same version of IE, here (8.0.6001.18702 / Update Versions: 0 ). The text editing box does seem sluggish compared to Firefox, but it doesn't automatically scroll up/down, jump or have the cursor drop off the bottom when editing a post long enough to have a scrollbar.

Could still be an IE bug, though. What resolution and window size are you using? This test is from an old laptop at 1024x768 / maximized window size (full screen size, but not the special fullscreen browsing mode.)

It may be some ill behaved add-ons for IE8.
