In Minnesota Chipotle fired about 30% of their workforce. They were audited by the Feds and found to have a large number of undocumented workers. According to the business that they requested people prove their citizenship with the required documents and promptly fired those employees who could not provide the legal documents.
I'm sure a few US Citizens were caught up in the timings and what docs they had readily available and lost their jobs. Overall I see this as a good thing. If they really had a good portion of that 30% of their workforce as 'illegals' they clearly are not fulfilling necessary citizenship checks prior to hiring. Though I'd like the firings to go deeper. There was no indication of Management losing their jobs. I would think the HR Department, at least, needs a thorough cleansing.
Businesses that hire illegals should be fined and hiring managers promptly sacked. We have 10+% of US Citizens out of work. Many could wrap a burrito w/o too much difficulty. It's time for businesses to stop trying to run around the laws of the land to make a quick buck. Be patriotric support US jobs with US workers!
