That's who it usually is. That's who was "mopping up" the scientists in Iraq.

The US denies any involvement. Israel refuses comment. From what I can tell, what most likely happened is Israel did this on their own and I get the feeling the US isn't all that thrilled. Either way, they'll both get the blame. Also worth mentioning is that there are plenty of other nations that don't want to see Iran get the bomb and it's also a given that no matter what happens Israel and the US would take the heat for it. I'd imagine that neither the US or Israel would ever think that killing a few scientists could stop or slow down Iran. But yes, if I had to bet, I'd put all my money on Israel right now.

It's difficult to know whether there is any tacit approval from the US - they may be only to happy to let Israel do the dirty work, there is certainly a government faction pushing for war (the neo-con faction again) but there are also considerable numbers of groups that want to avoid a war. The intelligence estimates keep coming back saying "no nuclear weapons program" and there is a growing anti-war movement on the right which is where the pro-war support can usually be counted on. I'm not talking about pacifists, but people who believe that current wars are not defensive or necessary and are unduly expensive for no real benefit.

I really object to killing scientists.

and attaching a bomb to a car by driving alongside it on one's moped (or whatever it is) sounds like an Israeli thing.
I can't see Navy Seals doing anything so silly

Obama is a NeoCon now? War with Iran is the only way Obama will be re-elected.

Are you saying you'd vote for Obama if he decides to attack Iran?

Personally, i don't think Obama wants war with Iran. He might not have much choice though if Israel makes the first move, and there's a good chance of that. Although Obama might be better off to just let Israel get pummeled by Iran. Unfortunately, the Middle East is more than just Israel and Iran, many other nations are likely to get involved (and to be honest, I don't think they'd be rushing to Iran's side).

I don't think they'd be rushing to Israel's side either. While the governments are aligned with the US the people aren't and it would be a hard sell, even for an autocratic monarchy, to send Arabs in on the side of Israel. Far better to let Iran and Israel duke it out and then move in to pick up the wreckage of both. That wouldn't be bad for the Saudis who would be left as America's one true friend in the region.

However, there are more interests at play outside of the region albeit close by. China and Russia are pretty close by. China could get to Iran if Pakistan let them transit their airspace which might be easily bribable as the Pakistanis aren't too happy with the US right now. Russia can get to Iran by the Caspian Sea. Israel can get to Iran via Iraq because that country is still under US control and could be made to give permission, but they would also need the permission of Syria or Jordan. I don't think Jordan would give it and Syria will have to wait until the US manages to start a "humanitarian" operation there to "free" Syria.

That or Romney becomes the Republican presidential candidate.

Don't think it will matter, conservatives are pretty put off by the choices they have now. It really doesn't matter too much anymore, the financial cataclysm is rolling forward and there is no one left to stop it. Let the blame game begin.

There isn't a bookey in the world who would give you odds on that bet.

why do these idiots (Israel and whomever) have to squabble like 2 year olds?? :whack:

Because the populations of both are controlled by religious extremists who see it as their holy duty to wipe out the other side using other peoples kids.

Showy bastards. Now, do you remember the KGB umbrella gun that fired a ricin filled laser drilled pellet? The CIA had a cryogenic gun that fired a frozen slug of poison that would melt away in the victim. That was cool.

it's only "cool" in a film. in real life it's stupid

"Brainiac Santorum"

Don't worry, Obama will have us in a hot war shortly before his election. I think I like Israelis actions a bit better of wiping out the brains behind the drive to get a nuke, but that's just me.
