Iran's parliament could pick the country's leaders "in the distant future" rather than having Iranians elect a president by popular vote, the Islamic republic's supreme leader suggested Sunday.

Iranian elections aren't real now, what difference does it make? The nutters in charge want global war to bring in their Savior, the 12th Imam. World of massive blood shed is their religious duty. It's a death cult, and a death cult with nukes is a disaster in the making.

So they're saying they don't see a problem going from an American model to a British model.

Speaking even as a non Shia, that's such a lot of rot. Whether Iran wants nukes or not, Shia Islam is certainly not a "death cult". All mainstream Muslims, no matter which branch believe that none other than God knows when the "end" is, and there is absolutely nothing anybody else can do to hasten or postpone it.

@Dammy,

I think it's fair to say that this particular argument can easily go both ways. And what's worse than one death cult? Two death cults.

Orthodox Shia believe that humans are powerless to encourage the Twelfth Imam to return, however the Hojjatieh sect believe they can "encourage" his return. This sect has suspected links to many in the Iranian government, including Ahmadinejad

And, as I mentioned, there are plenty of Christian nutters who believe that they can lay the grounds for the return of Christ by restoring historical Israel and bringing on nuclear war at Megiddo. Fairly large contingents of said nuts have been in the White House too - and the US actually HAS nuclear weapons.

There is a difference between predicting the end of the world based on Israel becoming a nation in 1948, and detonating some nuclear bombs in a couple of the Great Satan's cities, as an incentive for the the Mahdi to come out of hiding.

There is a difference between predicting the end of the world based on Israel becoming a nation in 1948 and believing that the end of the world will come after a nuclear war and that nuclear war, therefore, is not something to be feared but welcomed. Familiar with Armageddon Theology? Reagan was.
