This is a John Pilger documentary from 1987 that I've had on my "watch" list for ages and I finally got around to it. It's interesting in so many ways from the dicotomy between the rising tide of old people versus the rising tide of pollution related illness - the politics of rewriting history and the contrast between the haves and the have not so muchs. And it is quaint to see people talking about video tape and seeing portable personal cassette players - (not much bigger than a small book and able to play up to 90 minutes of music but you have to flip the tape over half way through).

But it is also interesting from the perspective of what was projected for the growth potential of Japan and yet what followed a few short years later was the bursting of an asset bubble that lead to what is called the lost decade. Some of it sounds familiar.

(BTW, lots of other good things to watch there if you have the time and the inclination)
