A U.S. district judge ordered New York City to pay $128 million in back-pay to firefighters who allege the city used an entrance exam that deliberately sought to keep African-Americans and Latino Americans off the force. The judge also ordered the FDNY to hire 293 black and Latino applicants.

Cool, now white people can sue the NBA and NFL and the judge can order the NBA and NFL to hire hundreds of white athletes.

Well, from the article...

The lawsuit alleged that the exams had little to do with firefighting and instead focused on cognitive and reading skills. Because of the hereditary nature of the fire department, white candidates were recruited and supported throughout the application process by family or neighborhood contacts and whites consistently passed while minority candidates failed.

So unless the NFL has white guys that pass the combine with the same stats, but fail at the test of urban slang... I'd suspect you're barking up the wrong tree with that one.

Ugh. I do hate hiring quotas like this, though. I still stand by my comments in the previous thread. Quotas like this do more to promote racism than heal it.

I'm sorry, but I reject your reasoning here outright. What does cognitive and reading skills mean? Fire fighting is more than standing in one place with a fire hose. There are a lot of critical thinking and decision making that a firefighter must make on the job. I know pop culture and the left want to lower the bar for "minorities", but that does not help fix anything and in this situation will actually put the public at risk. I reject the assertion that "minorities" are unable to obtain a proper education.

IMO the very suggestion a black person is unable to unable to read or speak English, is racist. The NBA/NFL comparison is a very good one. If we as a society are going to say "minorities" are incapable of proper education and need affirmative action, white people must be unable to compete in sports and need affirmative action.
