Landslide in remote BC community

British Columbia's steep, mountainous terrain, high precipitation, both as rain and snow, its abundance of unconsolidated glacial sediments all combine to make BC particularly susceptible to landslide activity

Mudslides are a geological event that most people never consider as dangerous, because mudslides are thought of as viscous and slow moving, however a mudslide on a steep mountainside the mud and water forms an liquid emulsion moving at speeds of up to 50 mph. Mudslides are caused by unusually heavy rains or a sudden thaw.

The world's largest recorded landslide (in terms of volume) occurred during the 1980 eruption of Mount St Helen's ( 2.8 km³)

the largest prehistoric landslide, discovered, took place in south-western Iran, the Saidmarreh Landslide ( 20 km³)

Not good. I studied Mt St Helens in geography for my gcse. Some of the pictures of the aftermath left me utterly stunned at the sheer scale of devastation. Hopefully they'll find those missing in BC unharmed.
