It's the end of the line for the USS Enterprise. She's done her duty for years but she is getting old and tired and she's falling apart. She's also nuclear.

But it's time to decommission the old girl so the time has come for one last tour. I wonder where she is going.

In the UK Wilkinson Sword (the razor blade company) bought one of our old carriers and currently uses it as material for their razor blades, or at least did.

Maybe there's a hitherto unknown market for glow in the dark razors :D

here in kansas radioactive oilfield pipe fetches premium prices at the salvage yards....

it's time to make the Enterprise that goes into Space

I think he wouldn't mind. I don't know that they'd be able to put it down themselves and have the story fly but it's old, the reactor parts need special handling and would be expensive to do by the book. A sinking could result in 3 to 4000 dead which is pretty much the magic number.

I think they could easily hang it out there and see if anyone takes a pot shot - maybe be a little provocative. Iran would have to either screw up or get a major asset cornered and have a commander panic - or maybe - who knows. They might get lucky and hit a mine.

I'm just saying, if you were going to put something out there to sacrifice, it might as well be something your done with anyway.

You guys do realize that carriers don't just go cruising around the ocean all by their lonesome right? I'm sure you've heard of "carrier groups"? It would be beyond abnormal for a carrier to be on it's own outside of it's protective armada. And sinking such a ship would require one hell of an assault and the Enterprise would still be capable of defending itself quite well even without it's support ships. Submarines would be it's biggest threat, but carriers also deploy the best anti-submarine weapon: helicopters (with dipped sonar arrays).

That's true enough. I guess the US will have to scuttle her themselves! :)

Would even give it away, its not like the billions in euros the Brits and French are spending on their newest ski jump carrier will ever result in a ship that will actually be launched.

and the US has already scuttled a few carriers,

now called "artificial reefs"

itd make a fine prison barge... park it off the coast of anywhere... its like gitmo on pontoons... take er out to the middle of the ocean when we need to interrogate fellers... then bring er home when were done... no flouting of laws and rights and such... whyzatts billionaire class oughta pony up and buy it... private floating torture prison for hire... :D

or a mobile drone landing and repair facility.... hell itd make a kick ass strip mall too, you could open the deck area and put a kick ass three story waterpark inside... but....would hold almost 6000 inmates tho... thatd make some pretty good scratch even after retrofitting costs... wouldnt even need a motor... just let it float around where ever...heh heh... if it runs aground or sinks... well guess you fellers get the death penalty.... :D
