US Government supplies Mexican gangs with assault weapons, not informing the Mexican goverment. US government demands gun stores sell weapons to known criminals. Weapon related violence in Mexico border states spikes to historic levels, local law enforcement and civilians are slaughtered. Obama calls for new gun control legislation, citing increase in gun related crime. Facts all come out, yet there is a MSM and government coverup.

Fluffy and I have been warning since about ~2007 that the shit was going to hit the fan in the USA. The shit is now hitting and beginning to splatter.

dont forget they used the uptick in slaughter data to justify contracting the boys from blackwater to assist in the whole fiasco...

You think that's it? It could just as well be an attempt to destabilize Mexico enough that the government has to "invite" the US military to help them. That would extend your military influence down to Guatemala which managed to shrug off an American backed military dictatorship in the 80s and 90s who would then be trapped between US forces in Mexico and the American backed coup government of Saso. Under the new coup government the drug trade has run rampant and expanded which would provide a convenient excuse under the "war on drugs" banner to "help" Honduras. Pinched between the two, Guatemala can be turned back to US control. Once you are down to Honduras you are just Nicuragua and Costa Rica away from having a direct land connection all the way to Panama - a nice secure supply line for building up and then linking up with the base in Columbia and then you are right at Chavez's doorstep (or whoever takes over).
 
Considering Fast & Furious only sold weapons to the Mexican gangs that they already had other sources to, I don't really see this is much of a destabilization attempt. Explosives, RPGs, land mines, C4, claymores, stuff like that would be far more destabilizing. F&F was stupid and criminal, but I wouldn't call it a false flag operation.

Btw, only two other carrier groups are in the 5th fleet AOR: Carl Vinson & Abraham Lincoln. The Enterprise is deployed to the 5th & 6th fleet AOR. Not sure how long it would take to get there. The Eisenhower departed Norfolk yesterday, destination unknown.

No, not "attempt". But over the next decade I'm sure the US would like to re-establish its influence over the Americas. There will not be a single thing that is the "attempt", but there will be continued relations and assistance with the drug gangs. The drug war is destabilizing and feeding it is good for the US. The finance industry makes big profits laundering the drug money. The arms industry gets to arm both sides. A portion of the Zeta are ex army commanded by guys who were trained at the School of the Americas. And whenever the Mexicans bring up the idea of ending the war on drugs, change the subject.
 
I'm pretty sure the US's influence over the Americas, Mexico in particular, isn't in jeopardy.

It has degraded over the Bush years. Several countries have thumbed their nose at the US and instituted independent governments. Chavez is a particular burr and he was even able to shrug off a US backed coup. US has influence over Mexico but that doesn't mean they could blatantly run the army down through to the ismuth without first instigating an excuse.

Oh they'll launch all right.

It's just that we won't have anything to fly off of them for around 10 years due to the massive delays in the F35 program.

The French already have carrier borne Rafale to use and have experience in using carriers of this size (hell their current carrier is a nuclear powered beastie).

We I believe just sold all our Harriers to your marines as part of a cost cutting exercise.
