Lying on Facebook could become federal crime

Downing told Congress the new law would merely be “the latest development in the steady stream of progress we are making in securing cyberspace.”
More like: the latest development in the steady stream of {bleep} up the internet. And nobody calls it "cyberspace" anymore. What a dink.

The linked article seems to think this is some new avenue for the Federal Reserve. Truth is, I'm quite sure they already follow public opinion very closely. They just want to build a new tool to automate the data collection. I'm just surprised they posted it publicly. There's several companies already starting to publish that they have the ability to do this for customers (and had already been doing it for various branches of the government). Part of the fallout from the HBGary fiasco showed that.
