Man whose WMD lies led to 100,000 deaths confesses all

I know this is old news but why isn't he (and the rest of them) ashamed??
Man whose WMD lies led to 100,000 deaths confesses all
The figure for deaths is at least ten times that and that was back when the Lancet did their study which was legit.
The people of Iraq are still suffering and dying - it's still hard to get electricity, clean water - all of which they had under Saddam. We destroy states because broken states cannot defend their property. Curveball - whom the CIA labeled a liar - should be rotting in jail but so should all the people who decided that they would rather disbelieve the CIA and believe this guy so that they could get their war on. They are all war criminals. Even with this confession nothing will happen - absolutely nothing. We've known it was lies since before the shooting began so why should things change now?

Good, old Curveball. C-oh-lin Powell's "reliable" source for his absurd and demeaning performance at the UN.
Subject of many a heated debate on Amiga.org.

So many on AO had such a hard-on for Curveball's lies that it was difficult to tell whether it was confirmation bias or if there really was something irresistibly sexy about the way he mongered war.

i think its pretty clear they knew he was lying, in fact they helped him make his lies more "presentable"

US officials "sexed up" Mr Janabi's drawings of mobile biological weapons labs to make them more presentable, admits Colonel Lawrence Wilkerson, General Powell's former chief of staff. "I brought the White House team in to do the graphics," he says, adding how "intelligence was being worked to fit around the policy".

I hope cheney's new heart is so revolted at being imprisoned in his chest that it mounts an escape and flings itself out

can you imagine openly admitting you committed a war crime with deliberate intent and not being hunted down, shot and left to die like a rabid dog in the street? so much for living in a country thats all about the rule of law... ugh...

He's done the bidding of the ruling classes. There's not much point in being ruling class if you don't get to decide when laws apply and when they don't.

I'm not too concerned with him. He did what was in his best interests in terms of his country. I hope he's happy.

What I want to know is who knew he was telling fibs over in the Whitehouse. It's pretty clear that the guys everyone typically likes to demonize, the CIA, not only knew he was lying but also made it clear to anyone (authorized) to listen. So it moved up the command chain to some level, but how high up that chain did it go? Does anyone here doubt that the Whitehouse held a short leash on the CIA leading up to the invasion?

Ya I know, but I'm sure it went higher than that. Would love to see some insider name that magical name that would just blow the doors of everything (and by that, I wasn't referring to his own car while starting although that too may happen).

No - he did what was in his best interests and screw his country and everybody in it. Oh, he is proud that he got rid of Saddam and he did it for his country - to bring them freedom. It's a decade later and they still don't have reliable electricity and the vice-president is a fugitive wanted for terror - and where does curveball live? Germany!!

They hanged Saddam for killing 5000 - they can hang Curveball too and all the bastards that stood behind him.

The Office of Special Plans knew. They knew the CIA assessment but they liked the story so much they shoved it down the right earholes making sure the caveats were off to get their war on.

But the same campaign is happening today against Syria, Lebanon, Iran.

holy moly! I missed that bit of fiction!!

who did that? The Onion??

Ok, my wording was perhaps not well thought out, you're right, it was in his best interests but his interests were his country. Anyway, my point was that it's Iraq's business now. They could hang him or make him a national hero - it's their call. And there are certain groups that would happily trade lack of electricity for a dead Saddam. Don't mistake what I said as any form of justification, just that not everyone in Iraq is unhappy with the current situation.

I don't think so. Not at the same level at least. I also don't believe there is any desire to attack Iran or Syria and the US definitely dragged its feet in Libya. I personally can't understand why they're holding back on Syria.

Not by the same crass bunch of boobs but by the same set but this time hey don't actually have the levers of power so they have to funnel the propaganda through different channels and it's a bit uphill for them at the moment.

There is a desire but I don't think it's in the administration. They have an election to fight so maybe nearer the time but Russia has been putting its foot down and China might join in. Iran is the last hold out in the region and the last foothold of both China and Russia and if they don't get a damn good deal then I don't think they'll just let this be an easy campaign (and Syria is really about Iran).

The US could logistically do this but it would be at the cost of US society and the banking system. They can mobilize the resources but not under the current financial system because the borrowing they would have to do would pooch the system and it is the system by which they maintain control over much of the world. The US would pretty much have to ditch the current financial system and go full on Stalinist to mobilize sufficient military productivity to because borrowing more on the dollar especially when you are fighting against the interests of the chief lender will make the currency fall apart and that is the same thing as losing the war. Take Syria and you are going against proxies that will be funded by Russia and China because they don't want the US to get closer to Iran.
