In the last few years sky surveys have found hundreds of bodies orbiting the sun along with us. Most of them reside in the asteroid belt but a goodly number wander on over to our neck of the woods from time to time to say hello.
This is a great 3 minute video of asteroid discoveries. Newly discovered asteroids show up white and then fade to be either green for the asteroid belt bodies, yellow for those that approach earth and red for those that cross our orbit. It's worth going to the link and then watching full screen in the highest resolution you can handle.
