Don't know if you guys caught it, yet, but XKCD built a chart of all money, similar to the one they built a while back about radiation levels. It's really interesting to visualize the scope of the economy, as it really stands. Sometimes it helps to just see it all together.

Money (a chart by XKCD)

A really eye-opening one is the fact that the combined richest 1% could pay off the entire US public debt (10.2 Trillion Dollars), and that 1% would still have a combined worth of about 6.4 times greater than combined worth of the poorest 50% of the country.

I also liked the hourly wage graph:
1965 production worker: 19.61/hr.
2007 production worker: 19.71/hr.
1965 CEO: 490.31/hr.
2007 CEO: 5,419.97/hr.

Hmm... Interesting. Somehow I managed to miss Cecilia's thread when I scanned recent activity. (shrug) Oh well. now we have two threads about it, neither of which have any topical replies. :D Maybe one of the mods would be kind enough to kill one.

How about this for one.

"hourly wage graph:
1965 production worker: 19.61/hr."

Does everyone just take these figures at face value?

Wasn't there at least one more person on this board reading that statement, besides me, that wasn't just laughing their ass off?

Couldn't quite see that. I assume this was adjusted for inflation?

Looks like someone missed the "Important Notes"
This chart is entirely in 2011 dollars.
Every value associated woth a year before 2011 was adjusted for inflation using the Consumer Price Index.
Nearly every amount has a cited source -- when possible, a scholarly work or government publication. A list of sources is available at http://xkcd.com/980/sources/
