Perhaps, but what should be troubling is that his involvement isn't solidly proven.

The British report Wednesday quotes a UK academic, Birmingham University professor Scott Lucas, speculating that the diplomatic cable may have been a critical piece of evidence or simply a pretext on which to arrest Fashi. “It could have been used as a pretext against him; to set him up as a person who could take the fall for the assassination,” Lucas said.

There is nothing in the US document pertaining to Israel.

He might fit the description, but it seems Iran arrested him on mostly a hunch and probably forced a confession out of him. Authoritarian states don't need to punish an actual dissenter, they just need to punish someone they label as a dissenter.

That's my general reason for opposing the death penalty. Too open to abuse. You can pick up just about anybody, kill them and then say "case closed" with no troublesome prisoner protesting their innocence for years and years.

On the other hand - someone was blowing up scientists and that's just not cricket. Those sorts of people should have to face justice too.

I'm sure that half the population of Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, ... etc. etc. could get behind that sort of thing -specially if it's death by stoning: it's more biblical.

like everyone i'm a hypocrite... i'm against capital punishment for anyone, except war criminals. the real terrorists have been rogue presidents and leaders all throughout the world, even here. the mossad have been one such agitator thru history and personally i'm okay with those scumbag vermin getting the saddam treatment... and i hope gw jr's head pops right the fawk off too...cheney rumsfield et al.... but i am saddened at the sexuality killings... dont pretend to know what makes me happy... im not even sure myself anymore...
