More Climate Document Leaks

Though this time it's from the Heartland Group. Turns out being anti-Climate also comes with some good paychecks. For example, Heartland Group is payin a PhD of philosophy $100K to build a 'teach the controversy' campaign against the science.

Don't believe everything that you read on the net that wasn't confirmed:

One document, titled “Confidential Memo: 2012 Heartland Climate Strategy,” is a total fake apparently intended to defame and discredit The Heartland Institute. It was not written by anyone associated with The Heartland Institute. It does not express Heartland’s goals, plans, or tactics. It contains several obvious and gross misstatements of fact.

Fair enough.

What Heartland has said is 1 document is not theirs. They failed to comment on the others. Strange they did not say, we're still reviewing the others or all are fake. So, which one's are real.

And even Heartland's comments should be questioned. What does 'not theirs' mean? Was it perhaps a draft that was not accepted by the Board yet? It techincally wouldn't be offically theirs. Or was it really theirs and Heartland is lying? Lots of questions here.

Heartland's response was 'at least 1 was fake' therefore the news sources must remove all docments. And Heartland apologizes to their donors that donor information was leaked in this theft? So there obviously some truth there.

Heartland, rightly, comments that this theft should be seen as bad. Too bad they only condemned this theft. I'd have liked to see them condemn all theft, including that of their opposition in the past. It would have made their condemnation more sincere and less one sided.

EPA, do you know where your grants are?
Grants (possibly as much $647,000) to Peter Gleick’s Pacific Institute seem to have disappeared from the EPA Grants Database.

Why are associations with a harsh critic of Heartland Institute like Peter Gleick being sent down the memory hole??

you know, the Peter Gleick who is a MacArthur “Genius Award” recipient, a (recently resigned) chairman of the “Task Force on Ethics” at the American Geophysical Union, a (recently resigned) member of the National Center for Science Education, and current president of the Pacific Institute. He is featured in a “documentary” film titled Last Call at the Oasis now showing in selected theaters.

any ideas faethor?

Oh, wait. I know this one.

Throw lots of mud, blow lots of smoke. Talk about the "fake" document and cast dispersions on the leaker so as to distract from the non fake documents.

(Still worth a chuckle though - to think of the carbon industry which started the email leaking game now getting its knickers in a knot when it gets turned on them).

By the way - brilliant message crafting - calling the thing "fakegate". Makes me believe that it's probably all true.

The Heartland Institute is a 28-year-old national nonprofit organization with offices in Chicago, Illinois and Washington, DC. Its mission is to discover, develop, and promote free-market solutions to social and economic problems.

So where does denying that humans are changing the climate fit into that mandate?
