by the way, I've NEVER understood the whole "royal bring in tourism" argument.

I have ZERO interest in seeing a "royal" person. It's no different than people going to LA in some lame hope of seeing a movie star. trust me, famous people do not walk around on the street.

Nor do I but all you have to do is wander past Buckingham Palace to see that it attracts a lot of tourists.

I think the royal family is a relic of a past everyone should have moved on from and the UK would be best suited getting rid but a cursory glance is all that is required to see that they do indeed attract tourists.
