NASA is actively working to dispel the myth that the world may end (in conjunction with the Mayan calendar) in 2012.

Still, it looks like a cool movie to see (for the VFX). :D

No. NASA is piggy backing on a hyped movie to try to get some attention and be relevant - and hopefully get increased funding.

An interesting thought and one that I could see. Still, I would point out that they have been responding to this particular topic (2012... not just the movie) for some time. Heck, they even made it to Penn and Teller's show. :pint:

Can't speak for NASA's motives, but there's no question that there are a lot of loons out there that have no faith in science and in particular NASA (you know, with faking those moon landings and all). On December 22, 2012, NASA may seem a tad more credible, however that will all be forgotten by the 23rd.

It wasn't meant as a criticism. You do what you gotta. On the other hand they might be better off spreading fear.

"You know, THAT could totally happen!! We just DON'T KNOW!!! - we need more money to study this and save the world!!!!"

Maybe there could be a bunch of Muslims flying a small planet at the earth right now.

To sideline the conversation, I find it interesting that the Tea Baggers, who claim the government can't do anything, believe in conspiracies such as the moon landing hoax and the hidden UFOs. :roflmao:
