our world should be just beginning to enter a new period of cooling — perhaps the next ice age

http://science.nasa.gov/earth-science/b ... riability/

Earth's orbit around and orientation toward the Sun change over spans of many thousands of years. In turn, these changing "orbital mechanics" force climate to change because they change where and how much sunlight reaches Earth. Thus, changing Earth's exposure to sunlight forces climate to change. According to scientists' models of Earth's orbit and orientation toward the Sun indicate that our world should be just beginning to enter a new period of cooling -- perhaps the next ice age.

How does the Milankovitch cycles relate to our current state of climate?

Did you watch that whole video? Extremely negative for Global Warming theorists.

This has been about since the 70s. Astronomically speaking we are due to see the end of our current interglacial. In fact we are overdue.

In fact, this fact has been used to ridicule global warming science. "Ho ho ho", they say, "how can we trust you scientists? You said we were heading for an ice-age so why is it getting hotter? - har har".

This does not speak against anthropogenic global warming which states that we are warming the globe above what its natural temperature would be if we weren't pumping out so much CO2. It will be interesting to see which forces ultimately win but ... it would be easier to do something to warm the planet with CO2 if it turned out we were too cold than it would be to cool the planet after we've warmed it up.
