That Germany had Nazi run labour camps is hardly news. What is a bit more surprising is that it appears they still do.
It's kind of ridiculous that you would go out and trick people into working in a virtual prison when you could just do what they do in the US - arrest people, put them in real prison and then make them work for almost nothing (while receiving money from the government for keeping them locked up). Much to my surprise, the US has Germany beat in efficiency. That's kinda interesting.
The key difference here is that in the US it's the government where as in Germany this is probably an illegal practice done in the private sector. It's kind of ridiculous that you would go out and trick people into working in a virtual prison when you could just do what they do in the US - arrest people, put them in real prison and then make them work for almost nothing (while receiving money from the government for keeping them locked up). US prisons are largely private sector too. Actually illegal captive labour isn't just a German problem. Besides the obvious brothels, we have sweet shops doing clothing and other piece work and plenty of abuse of migrant farm labour. The key difference here is that in the US it's the government where as in Germany this is probably an illegal practice done in the private sector.
