New Hollywood films that don't suck (?)

I'm no fan of modern Hollywood. It is mostly lazy boardroom driven, focus group tested, written for mass appeal with the great unwashed. I have not seen an actual new release, first run movie, in a theater, in 5 years. Are there movies that don't suck? I've watched a few when they were released on Digital/Blu-Ray which were passable to good, but they seem few and far between.

What upcoming Hollywood films won't suck? This thread is about "Hollywood" as a catch all for US films. I don't mind, and probably prefer, inclusion of limited release Indie films here.

One new Hollywood release I will probably see is this, due to Bill Murray's involvement.


The trailer looks promising, and Bill Murray usually nails it. What do you think?
 
The last blockbuster movie I watched and liked was the Lord of the Rings trilogy. On VHS.
 
It's Easter, time for an all time classic Ben Hur, filmed in 1959

It won 11 Oscars, an honor only shared with two other movies, Titanic and Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.


miraculously, no stunt men died in this pre cgi sequence.

Well, yeah. It was announced a year or so ago that after endgame, Brie Larson would be the face of the MCU going forward. Up until now the MCU focused on the traditional Marvel comic lines everyone loved. Bringing Carol Danvers in was the first break. Carol Danvers as Captain Marvel started in 2012 in the comics, and she's portrayed as a hardened 3rd wave feminist.As a matter if fact, the entirety of the Marvel comic line in the last ~8 years has been completely soy laden SJW dreck. After endgame they are breaking with the old traditional story lines, and going into the modern SJW/NPC story lines. Its been kind of funny up til now. Anyone watching a MCU movie and walking into a comic shop wanting to buy new comics based on what they saw in the movie would be in for a rude surprise.

Not into comics,, but the same SWJ/NPC story lines have taken over SciFi books, the Hugo winner is now a book to avoid
Even established authors are now having trouble getting published because their storylines are not SWJ enough

They are invading every single form of entertainment. They move into a space, destroy it, and move on to the next target. What's happening in comics is quite ugly. The movement fighting it is called Comic's Gate. Basically starting around ~6 years ago, the industry essentially started a witch hunt, trying to smoke out anyone who was not a fringe left wacko. All the normal non-SJW pros ended up quitting or being fired. These people formed small groups outside the mainstream and started massively successful crowdfunded comics with stories that were non-political and of good quality. The industry and their legions of NPC follows went on the attack, including Tortious Interference. There is at least one major lawsuit going on fighting back.

It isn't just comics. You are seeing it in SciFi books. It is invading TV, video games, Magic The Gathering playing cards, music etc etc. What's worse, it's invading areas outside of entertainment and far more problematic. It's invaded the public school system, all the way down to Kindergarten.

I followed the Sad Puppies/Rabid Puppies in the 2015 to 2017 Hugo Awards battles, in 2018 SWJ's changed the rules to prevent any but SWJ stories written by those with the most checkmark victim status being nominated for Hugos
