New Year, same binge Britain (NSFW)

British people getting smashed at New Year?

Oh, the horror!

I was also at a fantastically mad Hogmanay party which was still going when I left on the afternoon of the first. Best fun I've had since I don't know when.

@Robert

Must have been a lot of cocaine involved?

I was in bed before the ball dropped:confused:

-Edit-
I am mostly joking with the cocaine comment above. I personally couldn't imagine partying until noon the next day, but my family/work situation is probably much different than most people.

BTW, you are saying the behavior displayed in public is typical of British people?

I think it's pretty par for the course for young people in many places. I certainly don't remember a lot of parties I went to in Alberta when I was in high school and university and same here in Vancouver, but not so much now for some reason. All the really fun stuff happens after my bedtime these days.

I've seen some heavy drinking in my time and have been part of some pretty stupid heavy drinking myself, but I really haven't seen many displays like this first hand. I wonder how many narcotics were involved. I've never been a drug user and historically avoid people using anything harder than weed (or booze).

-Edit-
Since you mention it, I guess this is par for the course in universities. But don't these students usually do this in semi-private?

Judging by the pictures, I'd say alcohol was the main culprit.
In my experience, drunk people are far more unruly and dangerous than people on drugs of any kind, with the notable exception of Tamazepam.

That is part of it - we tend to do such silliness in private and the police chase us if we are intoxicated out of doors. My experience in the UK is that generally they are more permissive about drinking outdoors. I like that. However, it now means that all of the silliness is visible. Still, given the vast numbers of people involved, they could have made the photos of lots of different people instead of having a bunch of pictures of the same people over and over. The most outrageous folks will hog the limelight.

That said, when the bars let out downtown there are usually a few heavily damaged people in the crowd that you could take photos of if you wanted to suggest that Vancouver was a den of iniquity and drunkeness.

Last time I was there, I got a kick out of the paddy wagons on Granville street setting up shop Saturday evenings in anticipation for the night's mayhem. Didn't stick around to see if they got any use.

Right, I'm off to the pub. I shall endeavour to keep my photograph from appearing in this thread tomorrow. :pint:

Hmmm... That's what we need! An Android app that posts your photos directly to Whyzzat.com! ;)

If we'd done that last night it would've been the most boring video-stream in the history of video-streams; three guys drinking ale and having a blether.
