The United States will withdraw almost all its troops from Iraq by the end of the year, as a current agreement with Iraq dictates, a U.S. official told CNN Friday.

"The United States will withdraw almost all its troops from Iraq..." You seemed to have missed the important part which I have emphasized. This is the same retread of the last retread. The US has been withdrawn almost all of its troops from Iraq several times now. It is STILL not the same thing as leaving. Hell, they still have troops in Germany and Japan (and Korea and Vietnam and Kosovo ...)
 
That's good news actually. Pity Obama has screwed up Afghanistan so badly, I would be hoping to leave that crap hole within a reasonable time schedule. Perhaps the next POTUS will be able to achieve what is needed and get the hell out of there.

It depends on what you consider "needed". Getting out is easy - you just get out. But that's not what they went in there for.

Tell that to Obama. It would be political suicide if he did that without showing a strong case that the Afghans can take care of themselves.

Exactly. Getting out is not the objective. Retaining control is the objective - but they have yet to set up any system they can trust to exercise power in Afghanistan on behalf of the US.
 
Well, there's really not much stopping Karzai from giving the US the boot just like they did in Iraq. Except of course, that Karzai knows that it's the US that keep him alive. However, he does seem to have the foresight to prepare for such a scenario by making nice with his enemies: Karzai Says Afghanistan Would Help Pakistan Against U.S. Attack

Is he biting the hand that feeds him or is he looking for a new hand to feed from? Both probably.

Yuppers. I'm not too sure if there any hard support for the US being there anymore from the conservative community. Let China take control over it.
