Obama gives half-Billion $ to Al Gore connected to build cars in Finland

The butt raping of the American public continues.

An electric car company that received more than a half-billion-dollar Obama administration-approved loan is reportedly now assembling its first line of cars in rural Finland, rather than in the United States. What’s more, the car company, Fisker Automotive, is funded by a venture capital firm whose partners include former Vice President Al Gore.

To make matters worse, Fisker is more than a year behind in rolling out its $97,000 luxury “Karma” car, funded in part with Department of Energy funds. A mere 40 Karmas have thus far been produced, with only two delivered to customers — one of whom is famed actor Leonardo DiCaprio.

On the one hand, while it's the same old back scratching capitalist/politician stuff we always see, at least in this case it isn't making incredibly expensive ordinance and billion dollar military equipment that doesn't work.

On the other hand, it's also exactly the same business model as all American big business, take the hand-outs and move the jobs overseas. According to the crazy free market economics, this makes things better for all Americans because the corporate profits are realized in America even though it's only going to the guys that are already rich.

I'm also not enthralled by the idea of another luxury electric car company. If you wanted real progress in electric cars you don't need to throw money at a new car company, you just need to create a new vehicle class that doesn't have the strict safety mandates of modern motor vehicles (which the car companies complain about but really love because it makes it so much harder for start-ups to enter the market).

Creating a new light weight electric class (without the stupid 30km/h restriction) would open up new markets with just a vote.
