Obama State of the Union Address Reactions

I watched it. Overall it was very good, but that's easy for Obama. Bob McDonnell who responded for the Republicans paled in comparison, although was much better then last year's response by Kenneth the Page, I mean, Bobby Jindal. Overall I got the sense that Obama understood that things haven't gone as rosy as most have hoped - including himself - and that he's prepared to work harder to get things done. Your article pointed out some interesting facts, but they're minor points as far as I'm concerned and some could be argued either way. I also believe that he's putting more effort into working with both parties then the previous president has. He was right when he addressed the Republican leadership that saying No to everything is not governance. It seems the Republican's are putting all their efforts into making Limbaugh's dream come true: that Obama fails. How selfish. I can only hope that Obama's speech was able to convince Republicans to consider working more with him and the Democrats, otherwise everyone will lose.

Thanks for your insight Mike. I appreciate the response. I find it interesting that you observed what you did. For me, I found Obama's speech to be somewhat dull and nothing notable but in fairness to him, he would not be the first president to give such a speech. When you remark that he wants to work with Republicans, I find that somewhat ironic (and humorous) given that his party owns both houses and yet they couldn't push his agenda forward? Until recently they had their super majority in the senate so why are the Republicans suddenly so important? Seriously, I didn't view the Democrats as looking for Republican participation prior to the Mass election but now that their majority is gone....

As for the Republicans saying "no", I'm glad that they did with regard to the (hopefully dead) Obama care health legislation. I still believe that what they are / were proposing is bad on the whole and maybe now they will really sit down (hopefully on C-SPAN) and try to make workable legislation. But mine is just one opinion.

Finally, as to Obama "failing" (ala Rush) I have to admit that I'm not especially pleased with where I perceive Obama driving the government / economy but it is no secret that I didn't vote for him. Still, he is the president so if he can get enough support from the house / senate, he should be able to get what he wants. Now I think the real question is can he get cooperation from his own party in and election year?

Thanks again,
