The first President since Eisenhower to get over 51% of the vote twice.

He may be a 'Divider' but it appears he's united the voter more than any President in over 55 years.

He's got more people sucking at the government teat than any president in history.

You're right.

The question for me is - "Is this unique to Obama or Dems?" And I have to say no. What we've seen over, at least the last 40 years, is a continued increase in government spending and expansiveness. For example, Reagan tripled government spending. And Obama can only sign or reject those bills the Congress gives him, which has been mainly Republican controlled and directed. So unfortunately had we put McCain or Romney in office the story would have been the same. And should those Republican continued the Republican Bush policies, which they ran on, the gov teat suckling would be even greater.

But what counts as sucking on the government teat?
Every member of the military is on the government payroll. There seems to be no political will (except the Paulites) to cut that payroll. DHS and TSA are also tax fed, but those programs predate this prez (yes, look to Bush for DHS). Everyone who works in banking could be said to still be working because of the government dole to their institutions (again, the former prez). The big defense contractors like Boeing are all sucking Uncle Sam teat but anyone who tries to cut those contracts gets a rough ride. Many prisons are "private" but completely government funded, often under contracts that make it impossible to cut costs if the prison population shrinks.

@FluffyMcDeath

TSA *is* DHS. Both of them should be disbanded. We already have an FBI, we do not need a DHS. The military should be downsized too. Pull out of just about every country we occupy, put a virtual fence around the borders of the lower 48 and worry about that. No more nation building, no more policing the world. And most of all, LEAVE THE UN and STOP GIVING MONEY to the UN.

I've been on the fence about private prisons in the past, but I am now firmly against it. In an ideal world it would work, but corruption is too far reaching.

Don't forget the northern boarder. US Citizens keep running to Canada for cheaper and the same quality healthcare and low cost prescriptions. And Canada has more Islams than anywhere to the South. ;)

Leave the UN? Why? In most cases they do our bidding and we don't often pay our bills.

Private prisons are bad in concept. The result is creating wealth in a sector that has a huge influence to pass as many laws with the largest penalties possible to feed their bottom line. That wealth buys political clout and hence causes a nasty feedback cycle. I think most here, and a growing number in the US, say legalize pot and tax it. It's help reduce expenses from the failed War on Drugs, reduce prison expenses, reduce police expense, reduce court expenses and waiting and at the same time grow revenue. Plus Pringles / Old Dutch/ Doritios will thank you.

Red, the US occupies nations AND polices the world?

And btw, isn't a virtual fence between nations also known as an international border? I think you mean the US should erect a very tangible boundary barrier along it's Southern border.

EDIT: exchanged boundary for barrier, which was the word I was originally looking for but eluded me for some reason....

He's probably thinking something close to the border on bad sci-fi films. Which was that Logan's Run?

if we are making a list:

I want oil companies OFF the government teat
I want the rich OFF the government teat

I DO want science ON the government teat. at least some of it. That actually helps the economy and creates jobs...well into the far future

Agreed.

I have a problem to a point here. Science gets politicized and crisis are created out of thin air for funding.

Science gets politicized only by politicians and idiots.

people like Neil DeGrasse Tyson stick to science
