Mr Obama also announced a new process for continuing to hold those detainees not charged or convicted but deemed too dangerous to free.

No admissable evidence but "too dangerous to free" is the most fatuous excuse for unlimited detention without trial.

Mr Obama had pledged in January 2009 to close the prison within a year.

What a fake, lying scumbag.

He said the measures would "broaden our ability to bring terrorists to justice".

He sounds more like Dubya with every passing day.
At least the chimp was bit more honest about it.

there are people in the US that absolutely refuse to have the members of gitmo moved to a prison in America - despite the fact that filling this (empty) American prison would give jobs to a town who are jobless at the moment. Somehow they think that having Mooooslims on Ameeerikan soil is so horrible as to be unthinkable.

I guess they don't realize that we all live on the same planet and there is nothing sacred about the transparent American border - just ask the Mexicans running over the border even as we speak.

I've seen debate after debate about this. there's people like me who understand that the very existence of gitmo Creates more criminals and that we need to start the LEGAL process of trials.

and the other people are totally immovable on the notion that they will have a hissy fit if those nasty Moooslims step foot on their precious american soil. You have to SEE them to understand how insane they are. there's no reasoning with them. no compromise, nothing, they are certifiable

while I'd rather have regular trials, ANYthing is better than keeping those guys in limbo. Find the guilty, guilty and the innocent, innocent.
