First example in Oregon

In order to provide Healthcare on the State Buying Cooperative companies must make their rates publically available. In Oregon 2 companies found themselves to be much higher than the competition. Obviously they didn't think people would buy their plans seeing their high rates side-by-side with much lower rates. They requested Oregon enable them to lower their rates by 15% to be more competitive.

Maybe in Bizaro World. Obamacare has already porked me, as explained (and you rejected).

@Redrumloa,
Cecilia is right here. This isn't Florida. See Oregon embraced the Obamacare State Buying Cooperative option. What happens is Healthcare Insurers put their rates into the State Cooperative marketplace. All companies can do that. The end user can readily see costs and benefits of each plan. What it has created is a more free marketplace because information is more quickly and more easily available to the purchaser. Along with competitive information about other companies are more readily and easily available to the competition. At least this part of Obamacare improves the idea of a free market. And in the case of Oregon it worked. The highest cost offerings said - Shit we need to lower our rates to something more bearable to the marketplace.

Whereas, Florida - in their eternal wisdom - choose to not create a free marketplace of readily available information about the Healhtcare products. So, your options may indeed be worse. Sure it's an Obamacare problem that it didn't mandate this free marketplace. But, it's a RedState problem that they choose to not utilize something that saves you money. :)

Obamacare plan or old Healthcare plan? This article is fairly broad. But, I think it has some things well and not so well.

It talks about that the Obamacare plan is often more than what most Employer provided Healthcare provides. Including better coverage across State lines. Which means you may likely be better off on Obamacare if you need care in another State.

It talks about the increase in cost in the 27%-47% area. But, while it discussed the greater benefits of Obamacare it didn't compare like plans, just prices versus prices.

Also, it didn't talk much about the other costs and paybacks.. Obamacare implements mandates (using Romney's language) in some areas. Families, supposedly of nearly $100K, also see Tax cuts for using Obamacare. And various items are now included such as birth control pills, which are a useful tool in family planning.

Overall - I think we all agree it's a wicked mess. My take is the Insurance industry had too heavy of a hand in it's creation. What we should have is single payer and cut out the middle man, aka insurance industry. They offer no benefits to health of the individual. They're simply a way to skim money in an immoral fashion - when people are sick and need the care to get better.
