I certainly don't. He is funny though, seen regularly on 30 Rock and he's got a new movie with Bruce Willis.

Yeah, complete joke, and pretty damn funny.

Just by reading the topic here, I thought about how there's a gutted, abandoned warehouse a few miles north of my house (on the Lincoln Park/Ecorse boarder) that still has "Clinton Country" graffiti on it. (Apparently someone wanted to connect it to Bill Clinton during his first term...) I thought somehow Obama might have revived this old school tagging trend.

er, Tracy Morgann is a COMEDIAN

hello?

I hardly know the guy, except the odd out burst that makes news and an incident on a local morning radio show last year. Paul and Ron (2 middle aged white guys) had him on and he talked and acted like he had been up drinking all night, ending with him yelling and making threats and being escorted out of the studio.

Was this a publicity stunt for both parties? Where does the comedy end and reality begin? I'd bet if "Larry the Cable Guy" called Obama ghetto, it would not be taken as humor.

-Edit-
BTW the bicycle photo is pretty funny.

I'm not quite understanding... Are you politicking here, or have you missed the last few decades of comedy?

Comedians have a core audience and areas they work. Of course Larry the Cable Guy tossing out a black joke is going to set off a media storm as soon as Al Sharpton and company catch wind. The inverse holds, too. If Tracy Morgan tried Larry the Cable Guy's shtick, I bet there would be some flaming crosses showing up in quick order...

It just goes back to basic human nature. It's ok for you to laugh at your brother. A stranger laughing at your brother, though, and there's going to be trouble. DUH!

edit to add: You want to know the most segregated room in Metro Detroit? The comedy club.

Eeer, making fun of red necks and hillbillies is perfectly acceptable in modern culture. There is a huge double standard here, that is my point. Sure someone like Rush may take issue, but the liberal media would just ignore it.

Well, the "liberal media" might ignore it, but I highly doubt that Tracy Morgann throwing out a few hick jokes would fly very well, in general. And, honestly, the "liberal media" would ignore Larry the Cable Guy throwing out a black joke, until Al Sharpton et. al called them on it. That's really the only difference. The hicks don't have a honky version of Al Sharpton to champion all their "discrimination" and stir the race pot some more.

The only thing the "liberal media" cares about is ratings. They've learned that when someone stirs the race pot the ratings go up. Since there's no one to stir the pot on behalf of the white guy, there's no interest in coverage.

This was actually all explained quite succinctly in the Borat film when he goes to a comedy training camp. The guy tells Borat that it's generally not acceptable to make fun of things people have no control over. Borat was of course making jokes about people with "extreme retardation", but that also applies to skin color. However, things one can control, such as being a red neck, a politician or a priest, are fair game. Fat jokes kinda straddle this as it's considered poor taste to make fat jokes, but people make them anyway.

As for Tracy Morgan (who goes by Tracy Jordan in the show 30 Rock) is an over the top type of comedian. He usually doesn't insult others, but makes himself look like a total moron.

Here is where I disagree and where pop culture has created such a double standard. There is no difference between calling a white person a redneck or a black person a nigger, they are both derogatory terms. You may say some white southerners embarrass the term, well some ghetto blacks embarrass the term nigger. If a black guy calls another black guy a nigger, usually no problem. If I white guy does, here comes Al Sharpton and the liberal media. If a white guy calls a white guy a redneck, usually no problem. If a black guy calls a white guy a redneck, there may or may not be a problem but no one (pop culture, politics or even most the general public) thinks twice.

-Edit-
What ultimately I am get at I guess, the double standard should be thrown out. Hipocrats like Al Sharpton and Jesse (I hate jews) Jackson should stop be given air time.

... and they will. As soon as people stop watching them. It's not about "liberal" it's about ratings.

Here's a black redneck:

well that explains everything.

Tracy is a very intense kind of comedian. I find him hysterical - esp on Sirius radio where he can really let it out because that is a no censorship/no PC zone.

Tracy isn't making political statements, so you are just misunderstanding his humor.
