Georgian luger dies in practice runs.

This is breaking. His death was confirmed shortly after noon. The crash is already on youtube and the IOC is already filing DMCAs to keep the footage off the tube.

It looks like there could be a significant liability issue. If the post hadn't been there he'd probably have been alright. There have been a number of accidents on that track already and we'll have to see if it even runs during the games.

I hope his family can find some comfort in that it was fast and that he died living his dream, but there is no replacement for a lost loved one.
 
Horrific! Sure kinda spoils the mood for tonight's open ceremonies. I always thought the luge was a bit risky - head first at that speed just doesn't seem right.

EDIT: Sorry, mixed up luge with skeleton... still, pretty risky.
