Amiga Games Archive

playable in your browser!!! Well, in theory at least. Chrome on Ubuntu 12.04 is not giving me joy with the first thing I tried. Maybe I need to close down some of the huge number of tabs I have open.

Perhaps it's a good thing it's not working for me, since I'm still at work!! XD

The Internet Archive seems to be taking the same approach Youtube/Google did years ago, just allowing anything uploaded and dealing with the court battles to get legal. Will The Internet Archive have the same financial muscle to get away with it? There are already cracks.

Don't get me wrong. I think Abandonware should be free. I think 25+ year old abandoned magazines should be public domain. That's just my personal opinion. Laws differ.

In this case, I think Internet Archive should be ok on most of it. I can see a few take down notifications that will come in when a couple companies discover early titles from franchises they actually still slightly care about up on there. But so many of those titles have no clear ownership, at this point. Of course, the legality has gone back and forth with Abandonware sites, as well.

I fall pretty clearly on the side of preservation, but the law rarely does.
