LadyGaga refused to allow Weird Al to include the song on his upcoming record, until he sent Gaga the lyrics. Yankovic was then asked to record the song before getting approval. After Al recorded it, Gaga then denied it for commercial release

How could she stop the release commercial or otherwise? I thought that parody was protected speech in terms of copyright etc?

I didn't get the weird Al video because I don't know or follow lady Gaga. I went back and watched the original Lady Gaga video. My ears started bleeding and my eyes crossed. Who likes this pop nonsense? How does someone like Gaga sell so many records? Yeesh!

I'm with you on the Gaga thing, and I think Al nailed it by essentially calling her a fake Madonna 1.5 wannabe. I wasn't even really a Madonna fan, save for when she's nude, but then again, I don't care for most of the death metal crowd either.

A person's musical viewpoint depends almost entirely on their age, their surroundings, and the era in which they grew up. You obviously had a troubled childhood (joking!) but we're not supposed to "get it" at our age, any more than you could expect your youngest to fully appreciate the subtlety or nuance of Rocky Horror Picture Show.
 
For me Gaga is fun. I found Al's take also fun. Gaga I find over corporitzed shock. When I young I grew up listening to Bowie. I was fed the corporate 'be a rebel' Sex Pistols and Clash. This is the same story the music companies have pushed at us for decades. ... So my kids and I dance around and be silly to it. It'll be good memories for the old folks home. Though my 3 year old perfers Lamb of God. ... Posted that on Facebook once you should see the old school mates who are Christian Zombies give it the thumbs up of approval. Tee hee.

You living under a rock Red? I've seen enough photos of Gaga's outlandish outfits showing up on Drudge to know which outfits in the video she has actually worn.

You should recognize this parody, Al has done parodies of all types of music, his requirement is that the origional became popular enough that the parody doesn't have to be explained.

I know WHO she is, I just do not follow her, watch her videos or click on news about her with the exception of Blabbermouth.net articles about her being a slave for Iron Maiden in Tampa, FL. I get that Wierd Al did a parody and I understand what for. This video just didn't have the same belly laughs as some older ones he did for some reason. Maybe too predictable?
