Police stun gun kills Florida teen

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Miami Beach police say an 18-year-old died after being shocked with a stun gun as he resisted arrest for spraying graffiti.

Chief Ray Martinez told the Miami Herald that officers spotted Israel Hernandez-Llach painting graffiti on an abandoned fast-food restaurant early Tuesday. Martinez said the teen ran, but was eventually cornered. He said Hernandez-Llach then ran at the officers and one shot him with a Taser in the chest. The teen went into medical duress and died at a hospital.

The teen's friends told the Herald that Hernandez-Llach was originally from Colombia. His teachers at Miami Beach High School said he was a talented artist and photographer.

Most Whyzzat users will support the police here. This also won't make a splash on the national level. Too bad he wasn't black and carrying Arizona watermellon drink and skittles.:(

whose "most"??
No doubt. The cops were stupid. There's no reason to taser some dude that's spray painting property. He wasn't hurting anyone. Tackle him down. Why not just get his name from the by-standards? Or just follow him on foot for a while?

whose "most"??

I seem to remember a thread about a 5 year old with a piece of glass who was tased by police and I was in the minority thinking it was way overboard. It is near impossible to verify my memory as Whyzzat's search function doesn't seem to work at all on anything before the great Whyzzat reboot.

a 5 year old? I don't recall that.

in any case I don't believe in physically assaulting children. It's not the way i was brought up and it's completely unnecessary.

assaulting children is what nuns do

Police Taser Naked, Autistic 11-Year-Old Found Wandering Highway

This story is so disgusting, it’s honestly hard to write about.
In Oregon, police found a naked and very confused 11-year-old girl wandering on the highway along the I-5 corridor. Instead of offering her a ride home, they decided to taser her.

The young girl was autistic.

The trooper who showed up on the scene told the girl to stop walking. After she didn’t respond, he threatened to taser her twice. Two little red dots appeared on the small girl’s back, and then metal barbs.

“She seized up, then she just fell face first on the ground. Just face first on the ground,” said Bednar.

The Oregon State Police defended the officer’s decision to taser the 11-year-old, saying it was necessary to prevent her from wandering further and “putting herself in danger.”

Jesus.. Well get used to it! This is out future! Who needs death panels when we will die by law enforcement. A 95 year old was tasered for shaking a cane?!?!?!?
Unfortunately, this isn't new. In times before the taser they'd shoot and kill. Sadly, there seems to be a counting of Police killed in the line of duty. But, not a counting of people killed by police. One would think the FBI would mandate such an item. Also, the police self investigate if shootings were valid. Seems like an external body should be doing that.

The autistic case doesn't surprise me. A few years ago there was a New England state that found the vast majority of people killed by police were mentally impaired.

Toronto police killed 18 year old Sammy Yatim on July 27, 2013. He was not in a fit state of mind but the street car he was riding was cleared of passengers and Sammy was armed with only a 3 inch blade. The police response seems to have consisted of pointing their guns at him and yelling "drop the knife" a lot, until they got tired of that and shot him.
