From the Song A Day thread:

I've been neglecting music lately, so fun to revisit some of this stuff. My life should calm down soon and be able to get back to the simple things of enjoying music more. I did buy my first new album (CD) in maybe 5 years,

..and the floodgates opened today, a little bit at least. A very long time local record store has a going out of business sale today and tomorrow. After that they are closed forever. Their new vinyl was 50% off an already reasonable price. I picked up these 5.

Vinyl is once again the most popular physical media for albums. It surpassed CDs ~4 years ago. I never stopped listening to vinyl, but glad to see the rest of the world catching up

Pick up any new music lately? Any vinyl?

Nice. I haven't bought any for years but I still have a pair of turntables and around 3000 records, mostly from my DJ-ing days. I had a couple of friends over on Friday to edit a track and we listened to a couple of old dance records from 90 and 91 as the track we were recording reminded me of something. Cue 10 minutes of pulling out old vinyl DJ boxes and searching through them until I found it.

Of your new purchases, John Lee Hooker is the one I'd put on first.

3000! With a collection that deep, unless something new really tickled your fancy, you have no reason to buy. I updated the thread title.

Re. a favourite album, I have so many albums that I love from start to finish. One of the earliest I got into was Life In A Day by Simple Minds, released 1979*. The whole album is on YT and this is the first track.

*edit to add, I didn't get fully into it until a few years later.

For showcase, I have a compilation album of unsigned bands from 1982 called "Metal Massacre (1)", with a band named Mettallica. Yes, Mettallica. My Pics:

The only time this lineup shared a stage was Metallica's 30th Anniversary celebration. They shared the stage with newer members.

This is the very first official recording of Metallica. I bought this album in the mid 80s from a local record store for ~$5.
