R.I.P Washington Redskins. Killed by the PC "butthurt" agenda... 2014...

While "Redskin" has been listed as a pejorative term in pretty much any major English dictionary for many years, "brave" does not appear to be listed as such. So, from a legal perspective, the Atlanta Braves should have nothing to fear in the near future.

The most disturbing thing I read in the article was the fact that it took a full 8 years for the court to reach a legal opinion on this matter...

Ok then. As an Agnostic/Atheist, I hereby proclaim the New Orleans "Saints" as offensive.. :)

(Joking, but the point remains... Where do you draw the line, or is it just a matter of how loudly one whines?)

The lines must be drawn somewhere, and as society evolves and changes that point will always shift one way or another. Change, it's the only constant.

Looks like Alabama is going to be without an NFL team for a while longer as it's now looking unlikely that the "Montgomery Jigaboos" will get their name and logo approved.

Offensive to whom though? From what I've seen and read, most of the Native Americans were pretty much ok with the name. Which may go some way to explaining why it took so long in the first place.

As to Wayne's point about offence... Honestly I agree. I've watched as year on year the list of things being found to be "offensive" has grown and the subjects of those supposed offences have become more any more mundane. It would seem that there is a growing movement of people exploiting societies desire not to upset for their own ends. Hell at this point even the definition of the word is beginning to mutate - offensive is quickly being reduced to "how dare you disagree with me", in much the same way as the word "rude" has been reduced to "you're not giving me what I want" in customer service circles. The problem is that this behaviour is being rewarded in both cases by people wanting an easy life meaning it'll continue to get worse as time goes on.

One only need to visit Tumblr for things other than porn to find the leading edge of this charge.

Except that it was native Americans, the Oneida Indian Nation of New York to be specific, who petitioned for this and other similar issues involving the Redskins franchise name. Also, there's good reason to ignore past polls on the Redskins name that suggest native Americans are cool with the Redskins name.

Nah, the Vancover Canuck Drunken Rioters only riot when the Canucks lose a Stanley Cup final, and the Canucks nipped that in the bud by ensuring their team is sufficiently crap enough to not even make the playoffs. I don't foresee any riots in Vancouver for a while. Unfortunately Montreal didn't get far enough in the playoffs this year to warrant any decent riots. Maybe next year. (although they did eliminate Boston which is good enough as far as I'm concerned)

I'm well aware of the source of the complaint, but having spoken to several members of the Oneida Indian Nation both on the pro and anti side of the debate the results are still very much a mixed bag according to both sides.

The internet is a wonderful thing like that :D
