Republicans are pushing for Healthcare to be sold across State lines. LINK Republicans are neglecting for the last 150 years States have set the regulations for Healthcare within their boarders. Some states require more insurance for the industry, some less. Certain States, MN is one, requires only not for profit healthcare arrangements. Also, the new Republican bill allows States to setup regional Healthcare swaps.
In effect this removes local control of Healthcare to whatever State you buy the policy from. We the citizens elect the body which, in theory, should work towards what we see as good healthcare for this state. In the new Republican system that control is lost. The electoriate might still control the industry but because the users cross state lines there is no responbility for elected officals to act on the behalf of the electoriate. There's more likelihood that they'll act for the medical lobbiests.
This law doesn't put company against company as much as it puts States against States. Unfortunately, it's an all too common occurrance that parties declare their want to support something (this case States Rights and local control) to chuck it aside if the financial gain is better elsewhere. Sad Republicans sad!
