Ron Paul: Secret Service is ‘form of welfare’

While his GOP rivals are with constant Secret Service protection, Ron Paul says he’s skipping the government-provided security because it is a “form of welfare.”

But Paul’s seriousness about the Constitution and small government were on constant display, such as with his comments about why he is without a Secret Service detail.

“It’s a form of welfare, having the taxpayers take care of somebody and I’m an ordinary citizen,” Paul said. “I should pay for my own protection.”
