Hats off to The Telegraph for a well written article about the current effort by the mainstream press to smear Rush Limbaugh... without actually checking their facts. Typical really... :whack:

Like him or not, at least do some fact checking before you slander someone. I hope Limbaugh does sue (as he has recently threatened). It's not that he needs the money but I would love to watch those involved have to eat crow in public. It's my opinion that this possible outcome would be the best thing (and most painful) that could happen to the mainstream media.

Finally, I'd like to direct your attention to the list of 10 quotes in the reader response at the bottom of the page that are apparently factual...

** EDIT ** Finally someone in the mainstream "gets it"; thank you LZ Granderson. Note - The previous link is related to my original post. Enjoy.

Time to kick back with a bag of popcorn and a comfy chair. :pint:

Other things never that were never said.

I invented the internet. - Al Gore.
Israel should be wiped off the map. - Ahmadinejad

Yes, smears can be hard to shake even when they are blatantly wrong - however, on this one Rush has only himself to blame. The quotes are just so easily believable because he's a disingenuous lying self-centered a-hole. That's part of the appeal for his fans. He can say or do whatever he likes and get away with it - there's some bad-boy charisma to that. On the other hand his "boo-hoo" whining about it is unbecoming. I mean, what's the point of all the protestation. His audience is almost entirely male, older and Caucasian. If he says too loud that he ISN'T racist he may chase of some of his listeners.

An interesting and (perhaps) possible observation but until the ratings show it, I'd be hard pressed to believe it. He hasn't stayed the king of his market for this many years for nothing.

Armando Salguero, sports writer for the Miami Herald, did a great blog post today on this subject.

Limbaugh issue: Hypocrisy abounds in the NFL
http://miamiherald.typepad.com/dolphins ... eam-a.html

Pulling his shorts up to his waist and then motioning over to a couple of waiting reporters who wanted to interview him in the Dolphins locker room Wednesday, nose tackle Jason Ferguson used the N-word.

He was talking either to a teammate or one of the reporters who is black, but that didn't matter because the word seemingly floated away -- clearly heard but ignored because, in an NFL locker room, that word is uttered by players practically every day.

Sometimes the N-word is said in jest. Sometimes it is said in anger or rage. Sometimes it is blasted through boom boxes playing rap music. Sometimes it is clustered with taunts about another player's mother or wife or, in extreme vengeance-filled moments, another player's boyfriend.

And this is the NFL Roger Goodell wants to protect from Rush Limbaugh comments?

Limbaugh will not be part of the group trying to buy the St. Louis Rams, it was announced Wednesday. Pressure from inside and outside the NFL doomed Limbaugh's attempt to own the team, meaning a group of people decided a game played on a lined field has to draw one more line to keep Limbaugh out.

Funny how folks that once marched against exclusion, such as Jesse Jackson, will call for exclusion when it suits them. Interesting how Al Sharpton is appalled at Limbaugh's divisiveness but gives himself a free pass when he says things like, "white folks was living in caves while we was building empires."

The hypocrisy on this issue is everywhere. It is rampant. It is sickening.

LOL @ "smearing" Limbaugh
This is but a joke. Rush declares all the time that we should have a Free Market and let the people decide. When the people do decide against Rush it's all Boo Hoo.

Actually I wanted him to own the RAMS for 2 reasons. The first is I'd find it amusing to see the Rams lose and Rush have to comment. He'd deny the loss and blame the questioner for hating the Rams and St. Louis. The second reason is I'd love to see the hypocrasy occur when Rush asks St. Louis for a government handout to build a new stadium. Now both my dreams of more hypocrasy from Rush have been dashed.

See... even Faethor "agrees" with me (kind of sort of...).

(just kidding Faethor)

I'm pretty sure I linked to an article in another thread about Rush's ratings. Seems like his ratings are high in areas where people simply report what they listened to, but almost no existent in areas where the ratings agencies attached data collection to radio channels ACTUALLY listened to.

An interesting result, no?

@Lee

Good article and true. I cringe at every new minority owner ("minority owner" has nothing to do with race, it has to do with a tiny fraction of ownership) the Dolphins get. As a Dolphin fan I try to ignore the circus the ownership group has become. As an NFL fan I will continue to try to ignore this double standard nonsense... For now...
