Stepping back from politics for a moment, let's talk retro!
The Commodore 64 is going through a second golden age right now. While the C64 has never really died and always had a following, the amount of quality hardware and software being produced for it has been continually increasing in the past decade, as have people returning to the platform. New piece of hardware selling in the thousands is fairly common and even commercial games sell in the hundreds. While games selling in the hundreds may not seem like a lot, these are full priced games for a nearly 35 year old platform. The sales of full priced titles seem to be trending up too.
One upcoming game that appears destined to possibly near or break 1,000 sales is Sam's Journey. This game is an incredible technical achievement that will run on a stock, unexpanded PAL C64, or even an NTSC 64 with at minimal REU (ram expansion). Games like Sam are getting some exposure outside of 64 community too. Watching video of the gameplay you have to wonder how they pulled this off. Gameplay and gfx that would be impressive for an Amiga 500 being done on an unexpanded C64.
I don't know if y'all still like platformers, but check out the Youtube previews and remember the limitations of the platform.
