Smart guns, dumb gun owners

Just goes to show that idiots are everywhere.

Me? I find the Armatix iP1 to be a lot of hype and not much else. To begin with, it's only in .22 caliber which leads me to wonder about durability. When they make a 9mm or .45 caliber version I may be interested. The price is ludicrous ($1399 just for the pistol, the RFID wristwatch sells for an additional $399). For that kind of money I can buy a custom made M1911 pistol or a really nice SIG. :-)

I do not object to the idea of the so called smart gun but this type of "link" technology is trouble waiting to occur in my opinion. What happens when/if the watch breaks? What if the RFID reader malfunctions? Will your pistol still work when you need it? Is there any sort of law enforcement override code available to those "authorized"? This kind of feature has been debated in the past. I'd be curious to see just how thoroughly Armatix has tested this design. Bells and whistles are nice… until they don't work. ;-)
